Dear Friends, Family, & Fellow Cronies’:
I’m writing to you today because I have undertaken a major personal challenge and I need your help. I will complete the 13.1-mile Chicago Half Marathon on June 8th as part of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, CCFA, Team Challenge.
As you may or may not know, I have been battling Crohn’s disease for the past 18 years. I am still here fighting for a cause I so strongly believe in. Last year was a rough one. I had been hospitalized twice and two colonoscopies. As you know, I’m not very good at sitting idle and watching the time go by so I’m going to do something about it. I might not have always been well enough to run, but that never stopped me. Despite being sick I completed two goals this past year: running 13 half marathons in 13 months and the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge. This was my first full marathon. I plan on crossing the finish line healthy and strong and hopefully with friends and family cheering me on.
Just a little background: Crohn’s disease is considered an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). IBD affects an estimated 1.4 million Americans. The CCFA has remained at the forefront of research in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Today, they fund cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurture investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finance underdeveloped areas of research. The research that the CCFA does will ONE DAY bring a cure to this painful, debilitating disease so that our future generation will not have to endure this in their lifetime.
So my dearest friends, family, and cronies, I am fundraising for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America’s to raise awareness, education, and to hopefully one day find a cure.
