The Great Gatsby

Since I first learned about the remake of The Great Gatsby last summer I must admit that I was on the fence about such a remake. I finally decided to get off the fence and yesterday I finally went to see what all the fuss was about. As I handed over my $12.50 to the ticket booth at my local theatre all I could think about was that F. Scott Fitzgerald would be spinning in his grave and it would not be from bathtub gin. In my mind the The Great Gatsby in 3D was truly a travesty. I exchanged my ticket for a pair of child size 3D glasses, found the theatre, and settled into my seat.

I’m a huge fan of Baz Luhrmann and his films which are always insanely over-the-top and The Great Gatsby was just that. The  glitzy costumes and the opulence of the roaring twenties leapt off the screen. It is now clear his purpose of creating this and presenting it in 3D. When you read a novel such as one written by F. Scott Fitzgerald the imagery is rich and the words literally leap from the page. Luhrmann’s movies are always a dizzy dose of magic. I was beyond happy that Luhrmann’s Gatsby was above all an extremely faithful adaptation. Did I LOVE this movie? YES! Would I see it again? YES!!

QOTD: Did you see the remake? What did you think? Love it or hate it?
