Running Race Wish List 2014

This is one of my favorite times of years for many reasons. I absolutely love discovering and deciding which races I want to participate in and this is the perfect time of year to starting planning! One of my favorite activities is to my plan race calendar for the following year. While I understand completely and have learned the life lesson that life happens while you are busy making other plans, which is why this is a “race wish list.” Life happens, things come pop up, and sometimes you can’t run every race that your heart desires. As a rule of thumb, I generally like to keep my race selection semi-local for obvious time constrictions and financial reasons. If it takes longer to get to the race than to actually run the race I try to stay away. Why create a running “wish list” if it is not feasible financially? You will notice a few races, which would require over night stays and air travel. But SERIOUSLY if it’s runDisney or little blue boxes, that would definitely entice me to pack my bags. Like every other runner out there I also have a list of “dream races”, but that will be a different day and post. I know that I can’t wait to kick off 2014 with a big bang and soar through Disneyland at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon! Creating a 2014 “race wish list”  is a lot of fun and I am obviously not going to be running in all of these, but here I go starting with January 2014…

January 2014

Disneyland Inaugural Tinker Bell 10k (runDisney decided to not make running both races a challenge despite that being a discouraging factor for a lot of people. I personally am just excited to be running an inaugural race!)

February 2014

  1. We have a lot of the same races on our wish list. I’m registered for the WDW 10K and Full Marathon January 10th and 12th. After that, I’m registered for the Surf City Half Marathon February 2nd. I really want to complete the Beach Cities Challenge this year. So, the OC Half Marathon and Long Beach Half Marathon are on my radar as well. I loved running in the Rock n Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon this year and plan on doing it again next year. If I can afford it, I will sign up for the Rock n Roll San Diego Half because the medal they give for completing two races in the Rock n Roll series is awesome. Also, I’m planning on running the Hollywood Half Marathon April 6th. Of course, since Florida is so far away that I just won’t get out there for a race very often, this is the year I want to get that Coast to Coast Medal and do the Dumbo Double Dare to get it.

    • Sounds like you have a great year of racing ahead of you! I too have always wanted to earn the Beach Cities Challenge, somehow every year I fall short only completing the Long Beach Half Marathon which is my absolute favorite non-runDisney race! I have completed the Rock’n’Roll Los Angeles I think that they changed the course since I ran it, which is a good thing! Trust me! 🙂 The Hollywood Half Marathon is a lot of fun! I can’t say enough positive things about the Dumbo Double Dare! I look forward to that fun-filled weekend every year! Good luck on 2014 I can’t wait to hear about all of your races!!
